X-Rays
X-rays are an entension of the eyes. They enable the dentist to see between the teeth and through the gums.
X-rays are most useful in detecting tooth decay, infections and disorders of the bones. They only show "hard" tissue (teeth and bone) and are useless in showing the gums, skin, glands and other structures knows "soft" tissue.
Types of X-Rays
Bitewing
Periapical
Occlusal
This X-ray shows an unerupted cuspid in the roof (palate) of the mouth.
Full mouth Series
Series of bitewing and periapical x-rays shows all of the teeth, roots and related areas of the jaws.
Cephalometric
This x-ray shows malocclusion.
Panoramic
This x-ray shows unerupted devoloping teeth.
