Charting
Each tooth is held in place by the gums and bone around it. Thorough and precise examination of each tooth and its associated periodontium (perio: "around", dont: "tooth") is done to detect areas of concern as well as to give a standardized way of comparing at each visit.
The Periodontal Chart involves six measurements around each existing tooth as well as notations of bleeding, infection, recession of the gums and other anatomical and anomalous features of the gums and teeth.
